InfoMaker

Timely data access is the key to every organization's ability to meet changing market
demands. Waiting for a busy IS department to develop a complex report can mean costly delays in making decisions. That's why we created InfoMaker®. Its client/server architecture and easy-to-use interface help you generate informative, decision-ready reports. You don't need to know the database language to understand how to access your data. Templates for instant report layout, seamless connectivity to databases, and point-and-click query construction put you quickly in touch with the information you need. Corporate data becomes clearer, more readily available, and more visual than ever before. InfoMaker is the fast, intuitive way to make information make sense.

Select your data source and presentation style of choice, including graphs and rich text styles, for professional-quality reports and on-screen presentations.

The point-and-click query construction painter eliminates the need to know special database languages.

Get intelligent answers with visual impact, including 2D and 3D multicolor charts and graphs within your reports.

Rapid Reporting
Designed to bypass the traditional time-consuming database administration setup, InfoMaker consolidates large volumes of data into professional, presentation-quality reports at lightning speed.

Out-of-the-Box Productivity
InfoMaker allows you to produce your own time-critical reports and forms, so your IS department can focus on application development efforts. Because InfoMaker objects are fully compatible with PowerBuilder objects, IS can incorporate completed InfoMaker reports directly into PowerBuilder applications.

When you're in a hurry, QuickStyle report templates give you the optimum printed format. Create any type of report-from simple tabular style to detailed business and analysis graphs-with freeform, tabular, group, composite, label, crosstab, and other templates. A streamlined Report Painter eliminates the need to learn or use macros, special code, or computer language.

Point-and-Click Query Construction
InfoMaker puts SQL, the industry-standard database language, to work for you. Building a database query is as easy as using your mouse. Users already familiar with SQL will also appreciate the SQL Editor and flexible SQL construction that InfoMaker offers. For sharing queries, reports, and form objects, InfoMaker's library browser helps you quickly identify objects generated by InfoMaker. Plus, the built-in Query Governor allows database administrators to limit query size, type, and duration, and guard against runaway queries; this feature can be included with the EXE as well. With InfoMaker's Form Painter, you can create data-entry templates for viewing, modifying, or updating database information in a variety of formats, including grid, freeform, or master-detail.

Construct a local Sybase SQL Anywhere database for managing your own information. Create professional forms for managing data without any special coding.

Intelligent Answers
Built-in Analysis
An extensive palette of tools helps you customize and enhance your reports. You can create calculated fields with more than 100 built-in functions: predefined sums, totals, and other aggregate values. You can combine data from multiple tables into a single report and take advantage of unlimited, multilevel sorting and grouping-locally or at the server.

Interactive Reporting
InfoMaker toolbars are movable and customizable, with PowerTips and MicroHelp features for step-by-step guidance when you need it. Tab dialogs and drag-and-drop controls greatly enhance usability. If you make a mistake, undo it; if you like what you see, copy it to the clipboard and reuse it. It's that simple!

Information Unlocked
Comprehensive Database Support
With industry-proven native drivers for industry-leading databases, such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, Informix and Adaptive Server Enterprise (formerly Sybase SQL Server), InfoMaker provides corporate-wide connectivity and information access.

In addition to the ODBC drivers for dBASE, Excel, Sybase SQL Anywhere, and others, the ODBC interface enables you to install any vendor's ODBC driver for quick, seamless access.

Built-In High Performance with Sybase SQL Anywhere
The powerful, built-in Sybase SQL Anywhere database engine takes you to levels of performance that no other reporting tool and database combination on the market can provide. SQL Anywhere takes only seconds to install and requires no administration. Build local databases, or replicate data from a server and work remotely.

Portable Information for Users On the Go
The Data Pipeline enables end users to transfer subsets or entire databases onto a client machine. You can perform database replication and migration through an intuitive point-and-click interface. And you can easily move information from one database to another-even across different DBMSs. The Data Pipeline is ideal for mobile users who need data anywhere business takes them.

One major improvement to Infomaker 7.0 is the ability to not only create/run pipelines in development (a feature since InfoMaker 4.0), but the ability to DEPLOY pipeline objects built in development into the runtime executables created in the Environment painter. This truly makes mobile computing a reality where an end user running an InfoMaker 7.0- built runtime executable can pull information from a large database (DB2, Informix, Oracle) to a local database for processing of reports, in an off-line mode. The pipeline deployment also allows pipeline DOWN to the local database as well as UPLOAD from if the user uses data entry FORMS against a local database.

The data pipeline allows you to transfer data subsets between different databases.

Corporate Integration
Extended OLE 2.0 Support InfoMaker gives you extraordinary flexibility and control over how you present data. It offers the complete range of report linking and embedding capabilities, so you can use InfoMaker as an OLE 2.0 server. By viewing a report and its data as an embedded OLE object, you'll greatly reduce demands on the database server. You can also use OLE 2.0 to display data from other OLE-compliant applications.

Broaden Your Reach
You can e-mail InfoMaker reports to other InfoMaker users who simply double click the mail-embedded icon to view it. Or you can create. EXE files in the Environment Painter, so other users can start an associated program by simply clicking on an InfoMaker-generated form, report or pipeline. And you can save reports as HTML files--including both data and report format -- for distribution via your Web pages. To broaden your scope even further, you can view sophisticated graphs over the Web via a client-side component for browser access.

PowerBuilder Integration
Reports, queries, forms, graphs, and other objects created for applications in InfoMaker or PowerBuilder can be used interchangeably without modification. PowerBuilder developers can incorporate reports designed in InfoMaker into PowerBuilder applications. Similarly, InfoMaker users can increase their productivity by using queries and custom-built form templates generated for PowerBuilder.
