What is Shockwave?
Shockwave is the player that allows browsers to view Director content. Shockwave is the Web standard for multimedia and ships with Windows 95/98, Macintosh OS 8, Netscape Navigator, AOL, and Internet Explorer CDs.
Shockwave continues to be a tremendous success, with the distribution of the players at an all-time high. Since 1997, over 40 million Shockwave players (Flash and Director combined) were successfully downloaded from Macromedia's Web site. Shockwave downloads continue to break records with January averages of 1.5 million per week and over 190,000 daily downloads. That means that Shockwave's distribution from downloads alone have quadrupled since last January. In addition to downloads from Macromedia's Web site, Shockwave is distributed on the the following CDs: Windows 95/98, Apple OS 8, Netscape 4, Internet Explorer 3 and 4, and AOL.
