DataExport/DLL� is a powerful translation library that allows Windows developers to export data from their applications into nearly 40 spreadsheet and database formats using a uniform API. DataExport/DLL can also be used to translate ASCII text files and reports into the output formats it supports using an Export Definition File (EDF) or a DataImport Mask (MSK) file to select and translate data.

32-bit version of DataExport: DataExport/DLL is currently a 16-bit DLL. The 32-bit version of DataExport has been in Beta-test since April of 1997. Although the Beta-test version has been released to over 100 testers, it seems that only a handful have progressed far enough with their 32-bit applications to actually implement the Beta-test version. Whenever we have enough users to have confidence in the stability of the 32-bit version, we will announce the product as available. In the meantime, anyone buying the 16-bit version will be included as a beta-tester and may use the 32-bit version with their product. There are some users who are now doing this. Additional information will be posted here as it becomes available.

Language Requirements

The only requirement for the language you use is that it must allow you to call the functions of a Windows Dynamic Link Library (DLL). C, C++ and Visual Basic are good choices for Windows programming and working with the DLL, though any language will do as long as it meets this requirement.

DataExport/DLL API allows you to query DXTRANS.DLL and retrieve information about the supported output formats and their characteristics. This feature allows you to easily accommodate new output formats as they are added to the DataExport/DLL. With proper implementation, adding new formats to your application is as simple as dropping a new DXTRANS.DLL into your program.

DataExport/DLL can be implemented with Cell-by-Cell output--using only API functions--or through File-Based translation using intermediate files. Cell-by-Cell output uses the DataExport/DLL API to create and write an output file and gives you maximum control of the translation process. File-based translation allows you to quickly adapt existing file output routines to output new formats. These implementation options give you the flexibility to incorporate the DLL in the way that best suits the needs of your application.
